Story Behind Tiramisu
The word Tiramisu means “pick me up.” In Italy, coffee espresso is a way of life. It’s not uncommon that throughout the day, Italians enjoy a shot of espresso to keep up their energy. Over time, chefs began to realize that incorporating espresso into their kitchen would be an excellent way to promote business. Thus, baking espresso into desserts became a concept that would change the dessert game forever.
Here at Tammaro’s Cucina, we have a secret family recipe that will leave you craving more. Our Tiramisu is made with ladyfingers soaked in espresso and Kahlua, layered with Mascarpone cheese, dusted with cocoa powder. And while we offer dine-in and take-out service, we understand that sometimes you just won’t be able to stop by.

Believe it or not, tiramisu is relatively simple to make – you just need time. Made of two layers: a layer of cream and another of espresso-soaked ladyfinger. Here are the steps to creating Tiramisu:
Step 1: Soak half of the ladyfingers in coffee syrup and lay them in a casserole dish.
Step 2: In a saucepan, combine six egg yolks and 3/4 cup sugar and continue whisking over simmering water for 10 minutes. Then alleviate the steam and allow it to cool slightly.
Step 3: Beat 16 oz mascarpone with 3 Tbsp rum. Then beat and add the warm yolk to the mixture until smooth.
Step 4: Whip 2 cups of heavy cream. Combine half into the mascarpone mixture, then mix the remaining half until you reach the desired consistency.
Step 5: Spread half the cream over the first layer of ladyfingers. Dip the second half of the remaining ladyfingers and lay them over the cream layer. Spread the remaining cream on top of the final layer of ladyfingers. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Coat with cocoa powder and enjoy.
